Sheffield finally gets a new market!

After 22 years of negotiations with various potential developers, the deal which finally gives Sheffield a new home for its market has been signed.
The new market development is to be built on The Moor, on the far side of the city centre from the current building, and will be ready for traders to move into from Autumn 2010.
In the interim, the council has agreed to a 40 percent rent reduction which takes into account the neglected state of the current market building.
Graham Longden, President of NMTF Sheffield Castle Market branch said, “It was the traders who voted for the new market, which will be more environmentally friendly and bring us right up to date ... The city centre is changing and we have to look to the future”

Market Stall prices to increase from April 1st 2008

Due to the global rise in the cost of steel it's with great regret that we must announce a planned 15% price increase which will affect our standard range of Market Stalls and other steel fabrications as well as the cost of bespoke designs. This price increase will be introduced from April 1st, 2008. We would advise that if you are considering purchasing a Market Stall or other steel fabrication from us in the near future you do so before April 1st to take advantage of our current prices.
Please note, these price increases will not affect the rest of our Market Stall range which includes market stall covers, clips and counter boards.
UPDATE 01/04/08: Our website has been updated to reflect the new prices which are now in effect.
Darlington wins Best Market Attraction

The National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) has awarded Darlington market the Best Market Attraction award closely followed by Doncaster which was highly commended. The award was presented by celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson, himself an advocate of British Markets. In an interview with the National Market Traders' Federation he said “Markets are brilliant at bringing communities together ... I visit them whenever possible, wherever I am.”

Highly commended: Bury St Edmunds, Hexham and Longsight
Best indoor market: Halifax
Highly commended: Warrington
Best specialist market: Borough Food Market Southwark

Barrow-In-Furness Market transforms its fortunes

At this year's National Market Traders' Federation Conference, Ann Taylforth, Barrow Town Centre manager spoke about how the council has rejuvenated Barrow's market since retaking control from a private landlord in 1999 at which time the dilapidated market was three quarters empty.
Since then the council has invested £2.25 million in the 6,000 square metre indoor market at the heart of Barrow’s busy pedestrian shopping centre...

Grant available for University Students with parents in the Market Industry.

For the last 10 years the National Market Traders' Federation (NMTF) has been offering a grant to university students whose parents work in the British Market Industry in order to ease their budgeted lifestyle.
The NMTF Harry Cross student grant was originally set up by the NMTF Benevolent Fund, Harry Cross' son and daughter and the Federations Fairs and Stockport branches. Each year it awards one lucky applicant with a sizeable sum of money to aid them during their university studies. Whilst the sum varies from year to year, 2007's winner Harriet Bowyer was presented with a £400 cheque by Past NMTF President Dennis Williams, now chairman of the NMTF Benevolent Fund Committee.
An application form containing further details can be downloaded from the NMTF website here. Students must fill out the form in full and provide an accompanying letter from one of their university tutors.
The only condition is that the applicant must have completed one term or semester at a UK university by March 31 2008.

New Website Finally Goes Live!

It's been a long, long, long time in development but it's with great pleasure that we announce that the new look Gavin Kenning Engineering web site has finally gone live as of January 1st, 2008.
This marks the end of the first phase of an ambitious new project embarked upon some months previously to breathe new life into our company's online presence and it no doubt comes as a great relief to everyone involved that, at long last, we can finally see the fruits of their many hours labour.
In the coming months we'll continue to develop our new online presence with the introduction of our own online store as well as the regular addition of new content to our fresh look website. All this whilst continuing to provide the same top level of service to the many customers with whom we deal on a daily basis.
